On March 1st 2012 SSX will be launched in Europe. It’s the revival of not only the SSX series, but a whole franchise. In the past five years no snowboard games have been released AT ALL! We look back at a small part of the history of this very specific genre. This is the week the snowboard game SSX is being revived. Electronic Arts has cleaned its attic, dusted its furniture and decided to revive one of its most memorable extreme sports games ever. The Snowboard Super Cross makes his debut on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s been a while since we’ve seen SSX. In 2007 SSX Blur was released on Wii, while SSX On Tour was the last multi platform game. It was released seven years ago. The series peaked on Xbox, Playstation 2 and Gamecube… but for some disappointing reason the snowboard genre vanished. Yet, this is not the first snowboard game for this generation of gaming. When the Xbox 360 was launched in the United States and Europe in 2005 Amped 3 was released. Apparently 2K Games was not impressed with the sales of the game, because that was the last we’ve ever seen from the Amped series as well.
